Philadelphia 76ers Should Look At Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom is on the radar in Los Angeles with both the Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Lakers expressing interest in signing the free agent and troubled forward. The Philadelphia 76ers might want to look at Odom too.

The Sixers could use a boost with the injuries they’re dealing with so far. Odom would certainly help them even if he has off-court problems.

Though Odom seems to have a preference to stay in Los Angeles, he could be swayed to play outside for another team if the Clippers and Lakers believe Odom hasn’t recovered enough. He is reportedly training and will sign with any team if he has limited choices rather than play overseas or retire from basketball.

The Sixers are slim on the front-court, and Odom could play both forward spots as well as center. The Sixers could use his 6-foot-11 frame to pair with Thaddeus Young and Spencer Hawes this season since Nerlens Noel won’t be back until next season.

At age 34, Odom is past his prime but can give teams solid stats still as either a starter or backup. He saw his stats drop last season but seems to be focused now.

He’s averaging 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists his entire career. Odom would give the Sixers scoring, rebounding, defense and outside shooting.

The only issue is if the Lakers and Clippers refuse to sign him they might see Odom hasn’t recovered completely from his drug issues. He’s also dealing with his problems with reality-star wife Khloe Kardashian as well as appearing on their TV show, which can be a distraction.

Despite Odom’s problems he could be big help for an undermanned Sixers team dealing with a growing list of injuries, especially if they’re winning games and need to keep the momentum. Plus, Odom could come cheap in a one-year contract so the gamble would be slim.
