Golden State Warriors are Full of Well-Balanced Leaders
Many have argued thus far that the Golden State Warriors are the best overall team in the league, even over the Indiana Pacers. It’s tough to argue with Indiana has done, but you wouldn’t necessarily be crazy for thinking the Warriors could be considered the best, if not the most well-balanced team in the league.
The impressive part of what the Warriors have done is due to everyone on their roster knowing exactly what they’re in their position to do every night. Each player has a specific role for the most part, and they’re executing their roles perfectly.
Take Klay Thompson for example. His number one attribute he brings to the team is scoring the basketball. What has he done so far? He’s leading the Warriors in points per game with 20.4 points per game and shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc. You want points? Get the ball to Thompson, he’ll make it happen.
Obviously Stephen Curry is one of the best scorers in the league as well, but what he’s been doing this year more so than scoring, is to get everyone else involved. For that reason, he’s number one on the team with 8.5 assists per game. Curry can fill it up on any given night, giving the Warriors a solid tandem of two elite shooters.
So, you want rebounding? Leave it to David Lee, who leads the team in rebounds with 8.8 per game. Lee is also, like many Warriors, a great scorer and has put up over 18 points per game. But, his primary role thus far has been to take up space in the paint and pull down boards, giving his teammates more opportunities to score the basketball.
Defensively, the Warriors have two more leaders in Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut. Iguodala is by far the best perimeter defender on the roster and is leading the team in steals with 2.0 per game at the moment. Bogut, on the other hand, is the team’s best interior defender and has averaged 1.4 blocks per game — again, a team leader.
It’s pretty significant that in all major categories, the Warriors have a different player leading the way. It is truly remarkable with how balanced this Golden State team has been so far, and each and every game they’re getting better and creating more and more chemistry. I cannot wait to see where this team is at closer to the playoffs.
