Should Dwyane Play in Back-To-Back Games for Miami Heat?

Fresh off a home victory against the Dallas Mavericks, the Miami Heat are headed to Charlotte, North Carolina to take on the Charlotte Bobcats. This is already the second set of back-to-back games the defending champs have played since the season started with a third pair coming up this Tuesday-Wednesday against the Atlanta Hawks and the Orlando Magic. While most of the starters will presumably be playing the status of Dwyane Wade is still in question. Although Wade had a monster game against the Mavericks, finishing with 17 points, eight assists, five rebounds, and eight steals, playing this many games consistently this early in the season might not be a good choice.

Wade already sat out the second game of the Heat’s first back-to-back set this season, resting when the defending champs played the Philadelphia 76ers. Although the Heat lost that game, Wade has gone on to average stellar numbers, shooting 49 percent from the field and averaging 18.3 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and a career high 2.8 steals. This is all while averaging a career low in minutes with 34.5 per game.

Because the Heat are playing a mediocre Bobcats team tonight, Wade should elect to rest his knees to help continue his dominant play throughout the brutal stretch of this 82-game season. Watching Wade slash through defenders and ferociously dunk on his opponents while still allowing LeBron James to dominate statistically the way that he does is a thing of beauty. The only way Wade can continue this extremely efficient play is by playing a lower average of minutes and opting to rest on back-to-back stretches playing potential lottery bound teams. If the Heat coaching staff is smart in their decisions with Wade they may finally have their superstar guard in prime form entering the playoffs.
