A Derrick Williams to Sacramento Kings Trade that Works

With the recent news coming out that the Sacramento Kings have interest in third-year forward Derrick Williams from the Minnesota Timberwolves, I jumped on ESPN’s NBA Trade Machine to come up with a deal that could work.

Right now the Wolves’ biggest problems essentially all revolve around the bench. Rick Adelman either doesn’t trust or doesn’t respect the talent on the bench, and when they are in the game they are woefully ineffective. Derrick Williams is a part of this problem, and it is my belief if they can get anything for him they should jump on that opportunity. The fact that the Kings are interested makes me want to find a deal that works.

Wolves: Luc Richard Mbah a Moute, Jimmer Ferdette and Patrick Patterson

Kings: Derrick Williams, Alexey Shved and Shabazz Muhammed

The Wolves squandered the 14th pick in the 2013 draft on Shabazz Muhammad who wasn’t very effective in college and (rightfully) hasn’t earned any playing time in the pros. Moving three guys who are considered as “still having some potential” for three players who can actually help now will be a big coup. The Wolves aren’t in the position where they need to be developing talent. They are in the position where they need to go for the best record they can possibly get. Patterson, LRMM and Jimmer would really help.

One of the absolute biggest issues with the bench is their inability to score points, especially at the post spot. Patterson would walk in and be able to put up instant offense off the bench, as would Jimmer, but the addition of LRMM would significantly add to the team’s overall defense, an area where the Wolves can still use some work. I would support this trade as I feel it really solidifies the bench and areas of weakness on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
