Dirk Nowitzki Makes More Magic for Dallas Mavericks with Latest Milestone: No. 15
Thanks to the Houston Rockets‘ new center/forward, his foul against Dirk Nowitzki forged the free throw that the Dallas starting power forward scored to pass Reggie Miller for 15th NBA leading scorer of all time. That ultimate shot was Nowitzki’s 25,280th point.
Yes, I “appreciate your day” and night, D-wight!
Nowitzki’s milestone arrived just eight days after his last one, when he passed Jerry West for the No. 16 spot after his three-pointer led him to 25,194 career points that exceeded Wests’s 25,192.
After Dallas hosted the Washington Wizards on the night Nowitzki made history before he did it again in this most recent game, I asked: What does Nowitzki’s milestone mean?
First of all, I duly noted that Nowitzki, Miller and West all stuck with the same teams their entire career: Miller with the Indiana Pacers and West with the Los Angeles Lakers. Therefore, I believe that Nowitzki is here to stay, in Mavericks nation.
Next point: Nowitzki belongs with the West in the NBA All-Stars. He very much deserves to be a contender with the Western Conference at the 2014 NBA All-Star Game.
I actually had him listed as No. 2 out of the Mavs who must get voted onto the All-Star team. New starting shooting guard, Monta Ellis, who Nowitzki has dubbed as “explosive” on numerous occasions, topped my list due to his game stats in his first season with Dallas. Nowellis is what I call this prime pair.
Last, but most certainly not least, as one of the only three active players in the league in this ball club of Top 15 leading scorers, Nowitzki should not be ruled out as a potential champion once again. His scoring prowess just goes to show that he still is pursuing his next Finals run. The Mavs Madness that he, Ellis and swingman Vince “Vinsanity” Carter, among other teammates, indicate that they are determined to make this a successful season to go all the way.
The other two pro ballers ahead of Nowitzki are the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant at No. 4 and the Brooklyn Nets‘ Kevin Garnett at No. 14. KG should easily be Nowitzki’s next target to claim his place in the list now that this Nets’ PF/C’s offense has been approaching an obvious decline.
