The Phoenix Suns proved their commitment to tanking the season and letting the young guys run the show when they traded Marcin Gortat for an injured Emeka Okafor. They really don’t have many veterans left, but they do have Channing Frye, a stretch four, playing ahead of Markieff Morris, a second year player who has impressed thus far. Goran Dragic is supposedly on the trading block too, but the Wolves are relatively set at point guard.
Like the Suns, the Philadelphia 76ers recently dismantled their lineup, and are now led by a group of young players with limited experience and, well, for the most part, limited potential, too. Their three key returning veterans Thaddeus Young, Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes are all possible trade chips. Any of these players would fix a weak spot in the Wolves’ rotation, but will the 76ers take Williams and/or Shved in exchange? You never know.
This is probably the least likely trade scenario, but the New York Knicks are shopping Iman Shumpert, with rumors of a trade for Kenneth Farried or Rajon Rondo having leaked recently. These trades likely won’t happen, but a trade with the Wolves is a possibility. If the Wolves and Knicks do make a trade, there will almost certainly be a third partner involved, and what exactly each party receives is anyone’s guess.
The Sacramento Kings may be interested in Derrick Williams. A trade with them would likely involve Chuck Hayes or Jason Thompson. If Shved is thrown into the deal, the Kings could throw in Jimmer Fridette, who would give the Wolves some much needed shooting off the bench.
Kris Humphries has appeared miserable in Celtic green since being traded to the Boston Celtics this summer. He supposedly wants to be traded, and a return to Minnesota would make sense, as the Wolves don’t really have a backup power forward. His career has dropped off since his well-publicized divorce, but as recently as two seasons ago, he was a double-double machine, and he can certainly help the Wolves.
