As the Brooklyn Nets head to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves this Friday night, Jason Kidd and company will have another dogfight – no pun intended – on their hands.

With seven wins in their first 13 contests, the Timberwolves haven’t been spectacular by any means, but they’ve been what many believed they could be entering this season, a respectable team that gives opponents fits and should be in contention for one of the final playoff seeds in the Western Conference.

Add that to the fact that the Nets will be on the road, where they’ve won just once all season, and what you get is another tough matchup for Brooklyn.

Under the watchful eye of coach Rick Adelman, the Timberwolves boast a relatively young, athletic roster.

It begins with Ricky Rubio, who surprisingly hasn’t played up to his full potential through the early part of the season. The dazzling third year point guard out of Spain is averaging just 7.9 points per game, along with 8.8 assists.

And who could forget about the best power forward in the game, Kevin Love. Love is doing what he does best so far, racking up the double-doubles like he knows nothing else, as he’s been good for 25.4 points and a monstrous 13.3 rebounds per game.

But what’s different about the Timberwolves this year is that they’ve finally added another quality scorer to take some of the load off Love, and it’s paying off. That would be the sharpshooting Kevin Martin, who has averaged 23.6 points a night.

Containing those three players alone will be quite the challenge for the Nets, but here are the five things they’ll need to do to exit Minneapolis with their second road win of the season.

5. Keep Corey Brewer At Bay

Corey Brewer can change a game on any given night with his athleticism, which the Nets need to prevent.

4. Keep Kevin Martin Close

Kevin Martin is a quality scorer off the dribble, but he's much more dangerous coming off cuts and backscreens. Whoever guards him must remain attached at the hip.

3. Keep Kevin Love Away From Either Line

Kevin Love can do loads of damage when shooting from behind the three-point line or the free-throw line. The Nets need to keep him away from both as much as possible.

2. Joe Johnson Has To Have Huge Night

Brooklyn will be extra short-handed in this one, meaning Joe Johnson will have to score at least 30 points.

1. Contain Ricky Rubio In Pick And Roll

Ricky Rubio is going to get his assists, but they can be limited if the Nets defend him well in the pick and roll.
