Derrick Rose injured his knee last night in a three-point loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. The loss wasn’t the biggest piece of bad news for the Chicago Bulls; that is the severity in which Rose injured his knee.
It didn’t look good. If he tore his ACL again for the second time in three years it may be all she wrote for the superstar point guard’s career. If he did come back he certainly would not have the same explosiveness he previously did.
The Bulls — as do other teams with a singular superstar — rely heavily on Rose’s production. Without him they become simply a bad basketball team devoid of great talent. Guys like Luol Deng, Carlos Boozer, and Joakim Noah are nice players, but none of them are going to get you over the top. They certainly don’t have a prayer at dethroning the Miami Heat with that roster.
This hurts on variety of levels as it robs the game and its fans of one of the more exciting basketball players in the world. It is devastating for Rose himself who worked so hard and rehabbed like crazy to get back on the court and play to the same level he did prior to injury.
It also kills the Bulls’ chances at being a contending team this year. They are closer to a lottery team without Rose manning the point guard position. These are tough times in Chicago for sure. Let’s hope Rose gets good news, but it doesn’t look promising. As Rose goes so do the Bulls.
