Taj Gibson Gives Chicago Bulls Major Lift In Lineup
Gibson had a fabulous game in the 99-79 NBA victory. He played less time than the five Bulls starters with 26 minutes and 52 seconds, but his 11-of-13 from the floor and 1-of-2 from free-throw line for 23 points and eight rebounds was the key difference in the game’s outcome.
It was definitely a breakout game for Gibson. In his team’s first 13 games, he had averaged 24.6 minutes, 9.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. He was shooting 41.9 percent from the floor and his career shooting percentage was 48.2. He had been struggling with his shot until Wednesday’s game when he could barely miss. What was even more impressive is that he did it at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Now that he has apparently found his shot, it’s up to Gibson to proceed and keep scoring double figures for the Bulls, especially until Rose gets back. The Bulls need his powerful inside game.
When Rose gets back, it wouldn’t hurt for Gibson to take it upon himself to put up huge scoring and rebounding numbers on a consistent basis. He showed that he could do it against the Pistons, who have some outstanding post players. There’s no reason he couldn’t keep doing it for a Bulls team that is only at the .500 mark at 7-7. A rash of performances from Gibson like he had Wednesday night are likely help Chicago be a consistent winner.
