The 15-1 Indiana Pacers have looked impressive thus far but face a challenge starting Sunday as they head out West. This West coast road trip includes many good opponents, and it all starts Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The trip kicks off with a back-to-back starting with the Clips and then travels up North to see the Portland Trail Blazers. The Pacers then head down to face the struggling Utah Jazz and after a couple days off will see another back-to-back against the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
Removing Utah from the mix, the Pacers will go against a .700-plus winning percentage and the second and third best teams in the NBA record-wise. The Clippers and Thunder aren’t too bad, either.
The Pacers do have only one loss on the season, but that will likely change during this road trip. Facing teams of the caliber they will face during this road trip will be extremely challenging and a big test to a solid Indiana team.
Realistically, coming home with a 3-2 record really wouldn’t be too bad. The Jazz should be a win, and they’ve shown in the past they can beat the Clippers and Thunder but have struggled mightily with the Spurs and Blazers. This is the best Pacers team we’ve seen in a while, though, so coming out of Portland or San Antonio with a W wouldn’t be a shock. After all, they do have the best record in the league for a reason.
The Pacers have handled the teams they should handle so far, they but haven’t really had the chance to play any of the big dogs in the NBA and prove they deserve to be considered a top 3 team in the league. Well, they have a perfect opportunity to do it over the next week, and with the way they’ve been playing I believe they can do it.
