The Indiana Pacers began what should be a gruelling road trip on Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Pacers’ players said winning the first game of the road trip was very important because it sets the tone, and they definitely set the tone with a 105-100 win.

Critics weren’t impressed by the one-loss Pacers just yet as they have been doing everything with a fairly weak schedule, but a big win in LA shows this Pacers squad is what they’re hyped up to be. Especially the way they did it, outscoring a good Clippers offense.

David West really came up big for Indiana with a season-high 24 points and 12 rebounds. Paul George also had a big game with 27 points, six rebounds and five assists. Roy Hibbert had 19 points and some very important rebounds in the last minute (eight in total), George Hill had 11 points, five rebounds and six assists while Lance Stephenson added seven points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Indiana doesn’t have much time to celebrate their win, though, as they face a very good Portland Trailblazers team Monday night. Monday’s game will be the second of a back-to-back for both teams, as the Blazers play on the same floor the Pacers did against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Beating the Clippers was big, but Indy faces a whole different monster in Portland tomorrow night. The Pacers have had trouble with the Blazers in the past, but hope to turn things around against them in Game 2 of the road trip.

Indy will undoubtedly have to deal with some fatigue tomorrow night, which would make a win even more impressive. This road trip was meant to test Indiana, and teams like Portland are definitely one reason why. Should be a great matchup, and a great watch!
