Michael Carter-Williams took center stage last night against the Orlando Magic. The Philadelphia 76ers‘ rookie point guard poured in a monster stat line with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists along with three steals.
Carter-Williams is fresh off rookie of the month honors, and what a way to build on it. This kid is far and away the Rookie of the Year in the NBA at this point in time, and it isn’t even close. The real question is how high is this kid’s ceiling?
He is a natural floor general on the court and has every skill in the book. At 6-foot-6 he can see over the defense, and his court vision is second to none. What is possibly even more impressive is his knack for getting into passing lanes for such a young player.
Carter-Williams leads all rookies in steals and will potentially be an all-league defender in the future. On offense his capabilities are limitless. He is showing the ability with his athleticism to get to the cup with ease to either score or make plays for his teammates. With his big frame for a guard his rebounding totals are also impressive.
Carter-Williams can do a bit of everything. I expect quite a few more triple-doubles in this kid’s future. He reminds me of Jason Kidd in the variety of ways he can impact a game other than scoring points and doling out assists.
We are looking at the next great NBA point guard, folks. Michael Carter-Williams has a bright future.
