To be frank, Iman Shumpert has had an absolute nightmarish start to his third season in the NBA. His shooting has been off and he has been apart of numerous trade rumors. But as he showed tonight he is still one of the New York Knicks most important players. When he plays well so do the Knicks.

Shumpert is known for his awesome perimeter defense. But that has also been another shaky part of his game this year. As we found out a couple of weeks ago, Shumpert had a secret knee surgery in the offseason which is the most likely reason for his slow start. But after his showing tonight against the Brooklyn Nets it could show that Shumpert is finally healthy and ready to help this Knicks team.

During last seasons playoff run Shumpert had some highlight reel moments. We all remember his great shooting in game 6 against the Boston Celtics in the first round. We also all remember his sensational put back dunk against the Indiana Pacers. When he is playing at his best Shumpert is attacking the rim but he is also knocking down three pointers. Tonight he shot 5-8 from three point range. Once he starts consistently hitting three pointers it will help other players get easier shots. A lot of times Carmelo Anthony will be doubles when he posts up and if the Knicks rotate the ball enough they will eventually have open threes. Players like Shumpert will have to hit those jump shots to make teams pay for their constant double teams.

Shumpert has to find a way to gain momentum off of his great game agains the Nets. When Shumpert is playing his best the Knicks are a good team and win games.
