Sacramento Kings Acquire Rudy Gay From Toronto Raptors in 5-Player Deal

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Just a week or so after the Sacramento Kings made a move to acquire former Minnesota Timberwolves forward Derrick Williams, they have made headlines yet again. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Kings are set to welcome in Toronto Raptors forward Rudy Gay in a 5-player deal.

According to the report, the Raptors will receive Patrick Patterson, Greivis Vasquez, John Salmons and Chuck Hayes in return for Gay. Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray will be sent along with Gay to the Kings, again according to Wojnarowski.

Gay is in the second to last year of his deal in which he is set to make a total of $36 million over these last two seasons before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2015. So far this season, Gay has averaged 19.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. He has also shot just under 39 percent from the field.

The Kings are said to be looking to use Gay as more of a stretch power forward along with their most recent acquisition in Williams. Sacramento isn’t messing around lately. They look like they are really trying to improve now, rather than waiting until next summer when the free agent market heats up.
