Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Season Continues for Dallas Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks find themselves sitting in the ninth spot in the Western Conference. This is a far cry from where they wanted to be when the season started. With the addition of nine new faces this summer, Dallas hoped to be in the middle of the pack in the Conference.
Obviously there’s still a lot of basketball to be played and a lot of time for Dallas to move up the standings. As a matter of fact, the Mavs are tied with the Golden State Warriors in the standings. Due to tiebreakers, though, the Warriors currently have the eight spot.
One of the main concerns for the Mavs is the difference in play at home and on the road. At home, Dallas is one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA. However, the record drops drastically when the leave the confines of the American Airlines Center. The Mavs are 9-2 at home but only 4-7 on the road, including a terrible loss to the Sacramento Kings and the Warriors in their last two games.
Everyone will tell you the idea is to defend your home court and the Mavs are doing a great job on that. The problem, though, is in order to be a real contender for the Title you have to be able to win on the road. Unless the Mavs get the first seed in the conference, they will have to go on the road at some point in time during the playoffs. It’s hard to imagine the Mavs have a shot at the No. 1 spot, so that means they are going to have learn how to win on the road. Fortunately for them, they come home for a few games before returning to the road. If the Mavericks want to make the playoffs and be successful when getting their, they have to stop the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine and start winning on the road.
