Chicago Bulls: Looking For Help From D.J. Augustin
It’s not a very big splash and this type of move won’t put the Chicago Bulls over the top. But the way the season has progressed for the Bulls, including the injuries, any form of help is a relief. There are many signs that point guard, DJ Augustin will be signing with the Bulls very shortly.
Augustin, if he passes his physical would help the Bulls in the short term. With the guards injured (Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler and Mike James), the Bulls need more bodies in the backcourt. This is where Augustine could step in and provide some depth. Kirk Hinrich has struggled all year and Marquis Teague is playing with little to no confidence. If the Bulls do sign Augustin, Teague would more than likely go back to the D-League and develop his game there.
The Bulls’ players seem to like the move. According to Taj Gibson, the more bodies the better it would be for them. Augustin is a six-year veteran with career averages of 9.4 points and 3.9 assists per game. He is a scoring point guard and this is something that can help the second unit. He would give Hinrich some major rest because coach Tom Thibodeau has no choice but to ride Hinrich many minutes. This is one reason why Hinrich is playing poorly and the Bulls do not need him to get hurt.
The move to pick up a player like Augustin can also bring some excitement to a dull season. They need something or someone to jolt this team back into the mix of the Eastern Conference. A little luck with getting guys back healthy and this signing should do the trick.
