Philadelphia 76ers’ Spencer Hawes Is Among The NBA’s Best Centers
Spencer Hawes is fourth among NBA centers in scoring. His scoring is one of many reasons he is one of the best centers in the league and the most important player on the Philadelphia 76ers‘ frontcourt.
Hawes is also fifth in rebounding, top in three-point shooting, third in assists, and eighth in blocks among all centers. No other center is posting stats nearly as well as Hawes.
The Sixers’ wins have been largely due to Hawes’ performance. Whenever the Sixers win, Hawes averages an impressive 18.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, two blocks, and 57.8 percent shooting. When they lose, Hawes averages 13.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 45.6-percent shooting.
His importance has shown in Friday night’s 108-100 loss to the Toronto Raptors when he scored 15 points, grabbed three rebounds, and shot 50 percent. He’ll be a free agent after this season is over and will looking for a big contract. The Sixers may not be able to sign him; he’s currently making $6.5 million.
Hawes’ stats have gone up this season, mainly due to his role fitting as a three-point shooter in a system thriving from the outside. The Sixers also lack an additional solid frontcourt player until Nerlens Noel returns next season.
He currently averages 15.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, and 44.8 three-point shooting. The Sixers have no other option at center other than Hawes. His 7-foot-1 frame gives the Sixers an advantage over the undersized East.
The Sixers might be better without Hawes next season. His production should drop once Noel is back and becomes the main option in the middle.
