Carmelo Anthony Carries The New York Knicks In The Fourth Quarter

Carmelo Anthony

Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Last night against the Boston Celtics, Carmelo Anthony just ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. The Celtics stormed by New York Knicks and Anthony in the fourth quarter to get the win. Tonight was a completely different story as Anthony put the team on his back en route to a win against the Atlanta Hawks for the Knicks.

Anthony finished with 35 points on 13 of 22 shooting. He was also a perfect 6 for 6 at the free throw line and was 3-5 from downtown. In the fourth quarter he had 15 points. The bench helped Anthony as they had four other players in double figures. Andrea Bargnani and Tim Hardaway Jr. led the way for the bench players as Bargnani finished with 23 and Prigioni finished with 11.

But the real story is how Anthony carried the Knicks in the fourth. JR Smith was atrocious once again so Anthony had to do it all by himself. The Knicks ended up winning the game but Anthony won’t be able to carry the team every night. You saw it last night in the Celtics game.

Anthony is playing a lot of minutes and was the Knicks leading rebounder tonight. With Anthony playing so many minutes early in the game it leaves him gassed for the stretch run. But Anthony showed tonight he can still carry the team when he gets a little help.

The Knicks need to build on this win and find a way to get a winning streak going. They will need Anthony to continue to carry them.
