The guy just doesn’t quit. Dion Waiters has reportedly said plenty of things to rub the Cleveland Cavaliers the wrong way this season, and it looks like he won’t stop now. There were recent sources, according to Bleacher Report’s Jared Zwerling, that said Waiters wanted out of Cleveland.
What were his exact words, though? He preferred to leave and go to either the Chicago Bulls or Philadelphia 76ers, but he “prefers to go to Philly because he thinks he’d be the best player on the team. That’s his mindset,” said Zwerling.
First of all, that kind of attitude won’t fly with any head coach in the league, or players for that matter. So, if this is the type of mindset he has at the moment, good luck finding a trade partner. Not only did Waiters say he wanted out of Cleveland, but at a recent meeting called by Kyrie Irving, Waiters exploded on he and Tristan Thompson.
Waiters, again according to Bleacher Report, accused the two of playing “buddy ball” and refusing to pass to him. Waiters and Thompson were just about to throw punches before teammates intervened. Apparently, the second year guard also accused Irving of being able to get away with “loafing” defensively and taking poor shots.
The Cavs have been shopping Waiters and both the Bulls and Sixers appear to be frontrunners. But, I’m not sure if either squad knows what they’d be getting into with him. The kid is a diva. It’s plain and simple. If he truly took those kinds of actions in a meeting and treated his teammates as such, he better be either traded or suspended from the team. He is nothing but a cancer at this point.
