Unsurprisingly and to the chagrin of probably no one, Kevin Durant is the leader of the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 2013-14 NBA season, as he has been for quite a while now. Durant is the team’s leading scorer and, when the game is on the line, Durant is the guy you expect to taking the shots or making the calls.

However, the Thunder are, as we all know, a two-star show. After coming back surprisingly after missing only two regular season games, point guard Russell Westbrook quickly re-established himself as option 1B with the Thunder.

With his return, though, it took Westbrook a bit to get back in the flow. No one was questioning his abilities as a playmaker and it was clear that he wasn’t slowed by his knee injury, but it was also clear that he didn’t have the chance to participate in the preseason and had some rust to shake off.

In November, Westbrook averaged a solid 21.3 points, 5.5 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game, but did so while shooting only 38.9 percent from the floor and while turning the ball over 3.8 times per game. In December, though, Westbrook has started to hit his stride.

Obviously getting back in-rhythm and in-sync with his teammates, Westbrook has been absolutely dominant in the month of December. Through 12 games, Westbrook is averaging a monster 21.5 points, 8.2 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. His turnovers are still up, but that’s always the case with Russ’ style of play. What’s been impressive is that his field goal percentage has shot up to 46.2 percent this month. He’s also been putting up these better numbers while playing more than a minute less per game in December than he did in November.

If you’re still questioning Westbrook at this point, you must not use your eyes to watch the Thunder play, especially now. Westbrook, now comfortable once again, has been even better than we’ve possibly ever seen him in the month of December. There’s a reason the Thunder are 11-1 this month and, though Durant is clearly involved, Westbrook has been the catalyst.
