With the team getting healthy bodies back in the lineup, the Chicago Bulls have delegated backup point guard Marquis Teague back to the D-League. This news is no surprise to Bulls fans with Kirk Hinrich back in the fold and the emergence of DJ Augustin.
Teague has struggled with his confidence and game all season. He’s just not playing with that same swagger he had late last season and in summer league. He is playing very tentative and cautious, which has caused him minutes on the floor. He’s had plenty of opportunities to seize the moment, especially with the way the injuries have piled up with this team. Hinrich, Derrick Rose and Mike James have suffered major to minor injuries. James actually got cut from the roster to make way for Teague. Augustin has taken those minutes away from him because he is playing with more confidence and coach Tom Thibodeau seems to trust him more.
Maybe this stint in the D-League will help Teague gain back some of that poise in his game. The Bulls could use his quickness and ability to break the defense down with the dribble. The Bulls lack consistent ball handlers and Teague brings that to the table. But he struggles big time getting in the flow of the offense and his jump shot is very spotty.
Now, the Bulls will go with just two point guards on the roster–Hinrich and Augustin. Keep an eye out for the injury bug, since it has stung the Bulls all season. Teague is just one injury away from being called right back up and securing his spot back on the Bulls’ bench.
