Serge Ibaka obviously isn’t getting the most attention of all the players on the Oklahoma City Thunder roster. That honor goes to either Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook.
But the Thunder forward is showing that he’s just as valuable as any other player on the Thunder roster, including Westbrook and Durant. He’s providing incredible contributions that are making the Thunder an even more dangerous team.
This is a team that is definitely an NBA contender. But the Thunder need enough weapons to overtake the likes of the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat, who obviously stand in their way to the NBA title. There are obviously other teams the Thunder need to worry about, but they’ve got enough talent to beat anyone.
Ibaka showed Christmas Day with his tremendous performance against the New York Knicks that he is a valuable player for the Thunder. He showed what he can do when he gets hot. He scored 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting. That’s the kind of effort that’s going to make the Thunder tough to beat, especially considering the other talent they can use.
Granted, Ibaka hasn’t been scoring like that every night. His performance against the Knicks was his highest total since scoring 27 against the Golden State Warriors last month. He seems a cinch to surpass his 15 double-doubles from a year ago.
Ibaka is averaging 14.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in his first 28 games. He continues to be a player that Thunder opponents can’t ignore. That’s what makes him such a valuable player for Oklahoma City.
