Dallas Mavericks' Defense Anchors Win Over Chicago Bulls

The Dallas Mavericks took out some aggression against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night. After blowing a 19-point lead to the Toronto Raptors last week, getting blown out by the Phoenix Suns the next night and then losing to San Antonio Spurs on Thursday, the Mavs had some anger to release.

Unfortunately for the Bulls, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time as the NBA schedule-makers chose Chicago for tonight’s matchup. It started in the first quarter on the defensive end of the court. The Mavs held Chicago to 19 points. It didn’t get any better in the second quarter as the Mavs held the Bulls to only 15 points.

The Mavs led by 27 points at halftime and 30 points after the third quarter. Dallas only gave up 83 points for the game, which was the second lowest scoring output by a Mavs opponent on the season. Dallas won this game on the defensive side of the ball. They had seven blocked shots and eight steals in the game. Dallas also capitalized on the mistakes of the Bulls as they scored 22 points on 18 Chicago turnovers.

This was a big win for the Mavs. With Saturday starting a three-game road trip for Dallas, it was important for them to get off on the right foot, which they did. Dallas will now travel to play the Minnesota Timberwolves and then the Washington Wizards. If the Mavs play defense like they did against the Bulls, they should be in good shape on the road trip.
