The New York Knicks have known since the preseason that Carmelo Anthony wasn’t going to stay much longer the Big Apple. However, instead of trying to deal the disgruntled small forward, the Knicks have stood idly by and it’s starting to get ridiculous. Since day one, New York has comfortably sat in the cellar of the eastern conference and it’s 12-22 overall record is not by accident.
Now, many NBA teams are no longer interested in Anthony considering he’s a free agent after the year, who has struggled with loyalty in the past. With that being said, the Knicks are just wasting time by not dealing the All-Star before he leaves in free agency. The Cleveland Cavaliers appeared to be legitimate contenders in the Anthony sweepstakes, but a trade for Luol Deng all but puts an end to those rumors. And the longer the Knicks wait to deal Melo the more likely teams will begin to drop out of the Anthony running.
At the end of the day: the Knicks are showing once again why they completely deserve the 12-22 record attached to their name. Instead of trading Melo and trying to get some sort of return, New York is more than comfortable sitting on its rear while the Knicks slip further and further from an NBA championship.
