As expected due to what has happened in the last two years, there aren’t many teams that would be keen to add Bynum into their roster. It seems like he needs a locker room full of veterans and a team that’s built to win now in order to rediscover his love for the game. Even though not many teams can offer him that, one squad is rumored to be in the mix to land him.
That team is none other than Los Angeles Clippers, and as things stand right now, the Clippers have nothing to lose if they decided to take a flyer on the oft-troubled big man.
The only two players that are reliable options in the paint for Doc Rivers’ team are Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, and even though Antawn Jamison can be considered a reliable backup for Griffin, there’s no player that can ease the bulk of Jordan. Neither Byron Mullens nor Ryan Hollins are exactly solid options to come off the bench, and Bynum would automatically improve the second unit if he’s able to step on the court.
There are obviously huge question marks with a possible arrival in terms of team chemistry, but in a dressing room full of experienced guys like Chris Paul, Jamison and Matt Barnes – plus the leadership of Rivers and the coaching staff – Bynum should be just fine. It remains to be seen if he is looking to play again but if he is available, the Clippers would be wise to add him into their roster.
It’s clearly a situation where they have a lot to gain and not much to lose.
