Luol Deng was apparently caught off guard by his recent trade, but he was also thankful he had so long with the team that drafted him.
“I’ve been very lucky,” Deng said to Brian Windhorst. “Not a lot of guys can say they’ve been with one organization for too long. I was definitely surprised. You hear stuff, you hear rumors, but some of it’s true and some of it’s not. When it happened, I couldn’t believe it. It took a while to hit me. But it’s not like I’m stopping from playing basketball. I’ve been traded from one great organization to another one.”
He is right about one part of that equation, but he is also being diplomatically polite about the other half. That is because Deng is a professional though, but that does not mean he has not earned his own shot at free agency. All I’m saying is that would not be surprised if Deng leaves at the end of the day.
The Cleveland Cavaliers’ coaching staff are certainly pleased to add a player of Deng’s caliber who still has so much upside.
“He’s a veteran who’s still in his prime,” said coach Mike Brown, who will be hoping that Deng can reverse the momentum of this season. That is all for pro basketball content today, but good for a few more Prep pieces later on if you all behave yourselves.
