The Lakers’ bench can score for fun, but it’s apparent that they can’t play any sort of defense. Their only proven rim protector is Pau Gasol and even he has struggled this year. Without a proper defense, it’s impossible to see the Lakers doing something year.
The roster was constructed to have solid players around Gasol, Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant … but Kobe and Nash are injured while Gasol can’t adjust to D’Antoni’s system. If Nick Young is the best player on your team at the midway part of the season, that alone says the roster isn’t really a good one.
The Lakers look lost in every single possession and they often take what’s available for them instead of what they want to execute. Kendall Marshall can’t make enough plays on offense and they usually live and die with their jumpers and long-range shots. The Lakers appear to have huge issues to create positive offensive situations and that’s not a good sign going forward.
The players don’t seem to give all they have on the court. They look disoriented on offense and uninterested on the defensive side of the ball. Whether that’s because the team isn’t motivated or because they simply want the season to end soon, the truth is that the lack of heart the Lakers have shown this year automatically turns them into one of the worst teams in the NBA.
The head coach is the main reason why the Lakers are currently the worst team in the NBA. The team has lost 10 of their last 11 games and he’s unwilling to make changes on the rotation or the system. Clearly things aren’t working and they might not until the former Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks coach is no longer with the organization.
