The Boston Celtics have been included in a three team trade. This may sound ridiculous, but the Celtics will send Jordan Crawford and Marshon Brooks to the Golden State Warriors while Toney Douglas will go to the Miami Heat as the Celtics receive Joel Anthony and two draft picks.
I am not sure how this benefits the Celtics. The trade solves the problems for the Warriors and the Heat. The Warriors receive another ball handler with exceptional scoring and playmaking abilities which will allow Stephen Curry to play off ball. They also get a scorer that could come off the bench and give them some instant buckets. The Heat receive a tough point-guard in Toney Douglas with good on ball defense and experience. The Celtics get a player that most likely won’t receive a lot of minutes. Joel Anthony brings toughness, but I do not see toughness as an issue for the Celtics.
Danny Ainge must have something up his sleeve. I thought Crawford was a part of the long-term plans for the Celtics. The Celtics recently acquired Jerryd Bayless, and they actually like what he brings to Boston. We should have seen a trade coming with the cluttered roster of combo guards the Celtics have.
Crawford and his abilities are really flexible, and he could be used for emergency situations for a lot of teams. He could have asked for a bigger contract at the end of his term, and I doubt Ainge wanted to give him what he is worth.
The good thing in this trade for the Celtics is they get draft picks. Hopefully they find something positive in this trade.
