New York Knicks Make Another Strong Case for Disbanding Conferences in the NBA

The New York Knicks were dominated for the third game in a row because of a plethora of miscues on offense, an inept performance on defense and a horrible shooting night from Carmelo Anthony. Believe it or not, J.R. Smith was one of the lone positive contributors for a Knicks team that lost by 14, and seemed content allowing Blake Griffin to repeatedly hang on the rims at Madison Square Garden after lob passes. After such a poor performance, coach Mike Woodson should spend the rest of tonight picking Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers‘ brain for advice on how to correct the current course of the dysfunctional Knicks.

The Clippers are a good team, and have played well above expectations after losing their floor general Chris Paul, but the Knicks are currently making a strong case for disbanding the conferences in the NBA. I know that any team’s season has highs and lows, but the thought of New York representing the league as one of the Eastern Conference‘s playoff participants is pretty depressing. Just think of the deserving Western Conference teams that will be denied entry, while the Knicks waste everyone’s time with an early playoff exit.

New York is terrible when making their defensive rotations, and the Clippers were able to take advantage with wide open look after wide open look along the perimeter. This game would have been much worse for New York if Los Angeles would have been able to knock down their open shots at the beginning of the game.

The Knicks get a couple days off before returning to action against the Brooklyn Nets Monday, but New York needs more time than that to correct the way they’re playing. In fact, the NBA should save New York from the embarrassment of a first round playoff exit by not allowing the team in regardless of their final record. These Knicks are just that terrible.
