What can you say about Kevin Durant? He has had one of the more dominant scoring stretches in recent memory as he has poured it in from all over the court. Durant is dominating right now.
He is fresh off of a 46-point effort against the Portland Trail Blazers, including hitting 6-of-7 from three-point range. A few nights before that he dropped in 54 in a victory over the Golden State Warriors.
Durant has scored at least 30 points in eight straight games, and he is far and away the deadliest scorer in the league. He is the best pure scorer to come around in a long, long time. While LeBron James has many other gifts, when it comes to putting the ball in the hoop he simply cannot touch Durant.
What makes this all the more impressive is that Durant is nearly single-handedly leading this team to wins minus his partner in crime Russell Westbrook. The Oklahoma City Thunder still only sit a half game out of first place despite Westbrook missing a big chunk of the season.
The Thunder have to Durant to thank for that. He is playing out of his mind. They should already be etching the MVP trophy with his name on it as far as I’m concerned. Believe it or not, despite having a brilliant young career it would be his first.
Basketball fans — including myself — should consider it a privilege that we get to watch this kid play. He is simply special. Scorers like this only come around once every few generations, so cherish it while it lasts. Championships are coming in this kid’s future.
An MVP will also be waiting for him at the end of the season.
