There are few things in the sports world that are worse than getting stuck in a ‘First Take’ type of debate. You know, a hypothetical kind of debate where there’s no real winner. But as with most things in life, there are exceptions. One of those sports debates is Michael Jordan vs. Kobe Bryant in a game of 1-on-1.
This topic gained some real hypothetical steam this past fall when Jordan claimed that if anyone could beat him, it would be Kobe. Why? Because he steals MJ’s moves (at least according to MJ).
So who would win? If you had to ask one person for an answer, Phil Jackson would be a good candidate. He coached both players while they were in their primes and he really knows them in and out as basketball players. Luckily for us, Jackson was recently on Fox Sports to discuss this very topic.
There you have it. Jordan would beat Kobe in a game of 1-on-1. It came straight from the greatest coach of all time, and for me, that’s all I need to hear. If Jackson thinks MJ would edge out the Black Mamba, I’m going to go with what he says.
The story that he told about Kobe talking trash to Jordan was priceless. From what we know about Bryant, it’s really not that surprising to hear that he made a statement like that. But to me, it’s that kind of confidence that sets those two guys apart from the rest.
