Philadelphia 76ers Must Cut Down Their Mistakes Against the Oklahoma City Thunder

Evan Turner

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Snow won’t be the Philadelphia 76ers‘ biggest problem tonight. They’ll be dealing with a lot of thunder instead. The Sixers will have to cut down on their mistakes if they are to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder tonight at the Wells Fargo Center.

Their mistakes have been costly all season, particularly in Friday night’s 104-95 loss to the Toronto Raptors. The Thunder are the NBA‘s second best team and have been riding a six-game winning streak. One player the Thunder may be without is their best player, Kevin Durant.

Without Durant, the Sixers may be able to capitalize on his absence by having small forward and star Evan Turner take advantage of the matchup disadvantage with Thunder forward Perry Jones. The altter has been Durant’s backup averaging 3.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.4 minutes per game. Turner, on the other hand, is having a career season averaging 18.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 35.7 minutes per game.

The Sixers’ defense still needs to play well even without the league’s leading scorer, who averages 31 points per game. The other Thunder players have been stepping their game up in Durant’s absence. The Thunder demolished the Boston Celtics last night with a 101-83 win.

Mistakes have been major problems holding the Sixers back. They made some bad shooting decisions that ultimately cost them the game against the Raptors. The Thunder are a different team. They will not allow the Sixers to comeback.

The Sixers are playing an evenly balanced Thunder team that doesn’t allow too many second chances. If the Sixers want to beat the Thunder, they’ll have to watch tapes from their season opening win against the Miami Heat.
