New York Knicks Rumors: Carmelo Anthony’s Wife La La Says Forward Will Stay
The recent play of New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony has certainly gotten people talking. This past Friday, Melo dropped a Knicks record and an NBA season-high 62 points on the Charlotte Bobcats. He followed that up later this weekend with a solid 35-point performance.
While he’s not been producing at that ridiculous level all year, Anthony has clearly been the catalyst for any success that the Knicks have had this season. He’s given the most consistent effort and has pretty clearly been the only player consistently playing at a high level this year. However, with his impending free agency in the summer of 2014, his play this season and as of late has only sparked more speculation regarding his future.
There have been talks about the Knicks potentially dealing Anthony this season, but that seems like an unlikely move from owner James Dolan. The bigger question, though, is what Anthony’s plans are for free agency. Will he look to go to a team with young talent and cap-flexibility? Will he look to join other stars? There have been plenty of opinions voiced on the matter, but nothing that concrete.
This weekend, though, Melo’s wife and reality television star La La Anthony gave us a bit of information that is at least somewhat concrete. In an interview with Bravo TV, La La said that she believes that Melo will remain in New York, adding that she knows that “he wants to stay” and that she will “support him wherever he wants to go.”
Financially, staying in New York would be the better move for Anthony. The Knicks can offer him a max contract that will pay him $129 million for five years while he’d max-out at $96 million for four years if he were to sign with another team.
While LeBron James possible foray into free agency is going to dominate headlines, Melo’s free agency saga shouldn’t be ignored. If he leaves New York, this Knicks team is going to be in shambles and will have quite a rebuilding project on their hands. Moreover, any team that Anthony were to join would gain one of the most explosive scorers in the league today. However, if anyone would have some insider information, it’d be his wife; and she says that he’s staying put this summer.
