Dallas Mavericks Need Statement Win Against Sacramento Kings
The first meeting between the Sacramento Kings and the Dallas Mavericks didn’t go as planned for Dallas. The Mavericks found themselves on the short-end of a 112-97 score in Sacramento. Dallas is looking to reverse this on Friday night as the 15-30 Kings come to town. You would hope this is an easy win for the Mavs, but recent history has shown nothing is easy for this team.
Dallas needs to make a statement against the Kings on Friday night for several reasons. First, they need to kick in a different gear. For the first 47 games this season, Dallas has been methodically going through the motions. The Mavs have blown more fourth quarter leads in the first half of the season than any team should in an entire season.
Second, Dallas needs a good game after the horrible game Wednesday against the Houston Rockets. It was a game in which every starter not named Dirk Nowitzki had a terrible offensive game. Dirk scored 38 points and the rest of the starters only scored 22 points combined. Not only did they only score 22, but none of the four scored more than eight points. Jose Calderon had a game to forget. Calderon shot 2-for-12 from the field, including missing the game-winning shot twice in the final 10 seconds of the game.
If Dallas is serious about making the playoffs and making a run once they get there, they need to start making a run during the regular season and learning how to play consistently. If they don’t the Mavs could possibly miss the playoffs altogether or have an early exit if they do get in.
