The Minnesota Timberwolves have one of the best players in the entire NBA in Kevin Love, yet they are still on the outside looking in with regards to the playoffs. The Timberwolves currently sit 3.5 games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. With the teams poor play and Love’s contract situation the Timberwolves have to start exploring options to trade the star power forward.

Love has the ability to become a free agent after next season and is probably on his way out of Minnesota. A report came out the other day with one general manager saying that Love is a “lock” to leave for the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer of 2015. Most people have been assuming this for years given Love’s ties to the Los Angeles area. As most people know he attended UCLA during his collegiate days.

The Timberwolves aren’t going anywhere this year and have to blow up their team. They have done a horrible job in constructing this team and have no choice but to tear it down. That starts with trading Love. One team they should look at trading Love to is the Los Angeles Clippers. The Clippers are in Los Angeles and would definitely have an interest in Love. They could possibly swap Blake Griffin for Love. This would help the Timberwolves by having Love locked in for the next few years. Bill Simmons of ESPN drew up this trade on a segment of NBA countdown and it makes a lot of sense.

The Timberwolves are one of the most disappointing teams of this season. They need to start tearing things down and a good first step for that would be trading Love.
