The Los Angeles Clippers acquired Jared Dudley this summer amidst several signings made to improve their depth on the wings heading into the 2013-14 NBA season. After being productive on poor Phoenix Suns teams for several years, Dudley figured to be a key addition in the Clippers’ run this season.
However, Dudley has struggled to distinguish himself among a convoluted corps of wing players with the Clippers. Playing 26.9 minutes per night, Dudley has averaged just 7.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting only 44.9 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from three, making this the least efficient offensive season of his career.
With the NBA Trade Deadline on Feb. 20 approaching, though, it appears that Dudley might be a surprise addition to players that could be on the move. According to a report from ESPN’s Marc Stein, there are rumblings that the veteran wing could be dealt to help make the Clippers’ wing rotation less crowded and to more than likely add to other areas of weakness.
While Dudley has been lackluster for the Clippers this season, moving him is quite an interesting option for L.A. Given his history of success in this league, Dudley could bring in real value in a deal. Moreover, dealing Dudley could potentially bring some frontcourt help to the Clippers, something they desperately need behind Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan.
Right now there are only rumblings regarding a potential Dudley trade, but the possibility is enticing if you’re the Clippers. As trade season kicks into full gear in the NBA, it’ll be interesting to see if Dudley emerges as one of the biggest names to actually get dealt.
