Chicago Bulls Rumors: Spurs Interested in Trading For Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson
The Chicago Bulls are likely to blow up the roster prior to this summer’s long-awaited free agency period, but their next move might send a shockwave throughout the league.
According to the International Business Times, the San Antonio Spurs are interested in making a blockbuster deal for Carlos Boozer, Taj Gibson and Mike Dunleavy Jr:
“The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly interested in making a trade before the February 20 trade deadline, involving several Chicago Bulls players, a source close to the situation reported on Friday.
“The Spurs have expressed interest in hammering a deal with the Bulls for power forward Carlos Boozer, sweet shooting forward Mike Dunleavy Jr. and budding power forward Taj Gibson.”
The Spurs would likely include a package at least containing Matt Bonner and Boris Diaw.
For the Bulls, this would be strictly about shedding extra money. Boozer’s contract is set to pay him nearly $17 million next season, while Gibson is owed over $25 million for the next three years. Whether the trade involves all three Bulls names remains to be seen, but the intrigue is there.
San Antonio has another championship on their mind, and acquiring any combination of these three guys would put them atop the Western Conference without a doubt. To have either Boozer or Gibson – or both – combined with Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter would be incredibly hard to deal with for opposing teams. The Spurs would have the post presence of Duncan and Splitter, the athletic defense of Gibson as well as the shooting from Boozer.
Chicago fans would likely rejoice at a trade like this, if they are being realistic, as the season isn’t going to result in a championship. Once Derrick Rose returns, the Bulls want to be able to have him paired with a marquee name, as well as a couple other pieces in order to make a run at a title.
Stay tuned for the latest NBA rumors, including this one, to be updated until the deadline finally passes. There is surely much, much more to come.
