Metta World Peace was arguably the biggest free-agent acquisition that the New York Knicks were financially able to pull off this summer leading up to the 2013-14 NBA season. Sure, the team landed Andrea Bargnani in a trade and also signed Beno Udrih, but World Peace headlined their free agency haul.

In his time with the Knicks, though, World Peace has been a relative non-factor. He’s appeared in only 27 games this season, averaging just 5.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game while shooting just 39.9 percent from the floor and 32.1 percent from three. He’s deal with injuries, a miniscule role in their system, and has even seen several instances where he’s dressed but just hasn’t seen any action.

With the Feb. 20 NBA Trade Deadline approaching, though, World Peace wants to throw his hat into potential rumors. In a report from Marc Berman of the New York Post, a source stated that World Peace is open to the possibility of being traded from the Knicks. Someone close to the forward was also quoted in the report as saying that World Peace “didn’t sign up for this.”

World Peace himself remained distant from trade talks when asked about it, saying that he wouldn’t complain and would leave those talks to his agent. However, it’s clear that the veteran is less than thrilled with his workload as of late, particularly having to sit on the bench watching this Knicks team flounder around as they try to get in the playoff picture.

World Peace obviously hasn’t shown a decline in his effectiveness on both ends of the floor, as you might expect from a 34-year-old with 14 years in the league under his belt. However, his inexpensive contract and the possibility of him having anything at all left to contribute make him interesting if the Knicks choose to make a deal over the next week and a half coming up to the deadline.
