Last month, the Orlando Magic were said to be coveting Toronto Raptors youngster Terrence Ross. Zach Lowe of Grantland first reported the rumor, and now that the trade deadline is approaching we might see the Magic make a move. But, who would Orlando offer for a guy they have such a strong desire to land?
The latest out of Orlando is that the Magic are in “listening mode,” according to Sam Amick.
The Magic are in what’s called listening mode, and it’s a safe bet that most of what they’re hearing is offers for shooting guard Arron Afflalo.
Arron Afflalo has had his best season yet as a pro, and was arguably a snub for the 2014 All-Star Game. Obviously, playing for a team like the Magic who are in rebuilding mode doesn’t help too much. But, Afflalo has averaged 19.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting the ball at nearly 47 percent overall and 43 percent from long distance.
At the moment, even some NBA executives around the league think that Afflalo will be traded, according to Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors. The deal makes some sense for two ball clubs who are in a rebuilding mindset. The Magic also have some trade chips they could throw in like Glen Davis and Jameer Nelson.
For Orlando, it would give them a younger, more athletic swingman that can light it up on any given night but, most importantly, be someone who gets people in the stands. Ross, the defending Slam Dunk champion, is a guy that brings excitement to the floor every single night. Fans never know what he will do next, but they sure don’t want to miss it.
