Anthony Tolliver’s Offensive Explosion Aids Charlotte Bobcats’ Rout of Mavericks
The Charlotte Bobcats are rumored to have interest in several players around the league leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline. Evan Turner and Brandon Bass have both been tied to Charlotte, as has the rumor that the Bobcats are looking to bolster their outside-shooting. Anthony Tolliver made it known on Tuesday night that the Bobcats already have a guy that can fill it up from long-range on the roster.
Tolliver helped lead the charge for the Bobcats against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday in a rare offensive explosion from Charlotte. In 25 minutes off the bench, Tolliver put up 22 points on 6-11 shooting and 5-10 shooting from long-range. The Mavericks couldn’t seem to find an answer for Tolliver on the perimeter, giving him a plethora of good looks that he converted on.
Al Jefferson was also huge with 30 points and eight rebounds on the night and the Bobcats set a franchise record for assists in a game with 42. However, it was Tolliver that really sealed the big 114-89 victory for Charlotte, continually keeping the lead large and the momentum in favor of the Bobcats.
While the Bobcats have a shooter on the perimeter in Tolliver, their quest for another outside shooter at the deadline is not over. Preferably, the Bobcats have to be looking for a player that can not only knock down shots from the perimeter at an efficient rate, but that can also be more effective defensively than Tolliver, whose defense has been—putting it kindly—lackluster this year. It’ll be interesting to see what names surface in connection with Charlotte in the coming week and what the Bobcats will have to give up to make a deal happen.
