The NBA All-Star Game is not really an All-Star Game if a Los Angeles Laker is missing due to injury or not being voted in.

This year's contest will be without one as Kobe Bryant has to sit out due to an injury and Pau Gasol was snubbed on his All-Star selection this year. Many Lakers greats have taken the floor for the All-Star Game, and there will be plenty more in the years to come. It's just something about the mystic of the team and the way the whole city gravitates towards them that we on the East Coast have to take a step back and appreciate who they are.

Mention three of the best big men to play in the NBA, and I'm pretty sure one of them played for the Lakers during his career. Mention three of the best guards, and I’m sure one of them wore the purple and gold. The man on the NBA logo played for the Lakers for crying out loud. Give me five of the best coaches to ever grace the sidelines in history, and I guarantee two of them coached the Lakers.

To want to play for the best you have to be amongst the best, and the Lakers' superstars have not disappointed over the years. The All-Star Game is like practice to them because they play in a star-studded arena on a nightly basis. There is no extra pressure to perform better; this is the norm for them.

I am highly disappointed that I will not get to see Bryant or Gasol in this year's game, but I’m pretty sure next year will be a different story. You can only keep a Laker down for so long.

Here are the five greatest Lakers to ever play in the All-Star Game.
