2014 NBA Trade Deadline: Brooklyn Nets Talks About Jordan Hill More Smoke Than Fire

The Brooklyn Nets have already been reportedly linked to Jarrett Jack leading up to the Feb. 20 NBA Trade Deadline, but that’s not the only player that the Nets could be interested in acquiring. According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Nets could be in the running to enlist the services of Los Angeles Lakers center Jordan Hill.

The Nets would be looking to acquire Hill via a $5.25 million disabled player exception as a result of Brook Lopez being out for the rest of the season. Brooklyn can use the exception until March 10 in either a trade or a free-agent signing. As of right now, it seems that the exception could be used to “absorb the remaining $3.5 million on Hill’s expiring contract.”

Though adding Hill would give the Nets needed depth at center behind Kevin Garnett, who has played better since moving predominately over to the five, this deal doesn’t seem likely to happen for the Nets.

The Nets are already well over into the luxury tax in terms of team salary and the penalty of taking Hill’s contract on would cost Brooklyn $17 million, per Wojnarowski’s report. Money isn’t exactly an issue for the Nets, as owner Mikhail Prokhorov has made clear since buying the team, but that’s a lot of money to pay for a role player.

Moreover, the Lakers are more than likely going to want something in return. Though it likely wouldn’t be more than a highly-protected or late draft pick, that might be a deterrent for the Nets in this instance. Brooklyn would also have to cut one of its 15 players currently on the roster, all of whom are guaranteed money for the rest of the season.

While the Nets acquiring Hill can’t be ruled out, it seems like there is more smoke here than fire. The drawbacks appear to be far more numerous than the advantage of adding Hill to the roster. We’ll see if the Brooklyn front office sees it that way, though.

Gerald Green Throws Down Monstrous Slam On Nets

Gerald Green hasn't been the most consistent player throughout the early stages of his young career, but there's no denying his overwhelming athleticism. Against the floundering Brooklyn Nets this evening, Green showcased some of those said abilities by emphatically throwing down a monstrous dunk, and he caught some major air in the process. If he's ever able to learn how to do it night-in and night out, Green is going to be an All-Star one day.
