With the trade deadline just two days away, speculation about what will happen during this summer’s free agency has already begun. One of the biggest topics of conversation is what LeBron James will ultimately due this summer. Will James extend his stay with the Miami Heat by picking up his contract extension? Or will he take his talents elsewhere to one of the select teams he allows to talk to him this summer?

With so much attention being paid to what James will eventually do this summer, not a lot is being said about the other two members of the Big Three and their contract situations. Both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh’s contracts have the option to either be extended or end abruptly. Wade’s limited availability and continued health issues will most likely force him into taking less money for the greater good of the Heat organization which makes Bosh’s free agent status the most intriguing.

Bosh isn’t exactly having a contract season as some of his key areas (assists, blocks and steals specifically) are down from last season. Bosh is also averaging mediocre numbers in rebounding and points per game. The biggest uptick in Bosh’s game this season has been from beyond the arc where he is shooting a blistering 36 percent. This is the highest average he has attained in a Heat uniform which is a sign that the offense is becoming more suited to Bosh’s game. Bosh is also averaging a career-low in minutes per game which could be a cause for the low statistics this season. Nonetheless, Bosh could warrant max dollars from numerous teams this offseason mostly due to his unique skill-set, especially playing at the power forward position.

If Miami can convince Bosh to stay with the Heat organization, James will have to realize that the combination of both Wade and Bosh with his skill-set is still arguably the best trio the in NBA. This, with the combination of Pat Riley at the helm, will give James the best chance at winning titles for years to come, and Bosh is the key to making that happen.
