The All-Star break is over and the most important part of the regular season is underway. On Tuesday night, the Washington Wizards are facing the Toronto Raptors in what is a must-win game for Washington.
The Wizards are currently 25-27 and sitting at 5th place in the Eastern Conference. The Raptors are 28-24 and in 3rd place in the East. The Wizards need to have a strong second half of the season. The team fell short a few times during the first half and should be well over the .500 mark. Washington must come out on a winning streak after this year’s All-Star break to get the franchise ready for the playoffs.
Against the Raptors, Washington must utilize their big men Nene Hilario and Marcin Gortat. Attacking the rim will be very important for as physicality will help the Wizards control the paint and win the game. The Wizards’ frontcourt must pay extra attention to small forward DeMar DeRorzan. He is currently averaging 22 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Washington can not afford to let DeRozan control the tempo in Tuesday’s matchup.
Offensively, Washington needs to utilize Bradley Beal. The Raptors are a poor perimeter defending team. Beal is currently shooting 43 percent from three-point range and 42 percent from field goal range. He should be getting a lot of looks tonight against Toronto. I’d expect a big scoring game from him for the Wizards to win.
