NBA Trade Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers Should Deal Luol Deng for Harrison Barnes

Luol Deng Harrison Barnes Trade Rumors

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

It is no longer a secret that the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in trading small forward Luol Deng for the right price. What’s even more obvious than that is Deng desperately wants out of Cleveland, as he hasn’t been happy since his arrival. The Cavaliers would be smart to trade Deng to the Golden State Warriors for small forward Harrison Barnes.

The deal is financially lopsided, but it’s still something both teams can get around if the desire is there. The Cavaliers need someone who will convince point guard Kyrie Irving to stick around. Barnes is the man for the job as he’s an upcoming talent with unlimited potential. He may not provide the scoring ability that Deng can. However, he’s someone that would thrive with the right opportunity. The chance to go from the sixth man to a starter is exactly what might be necessary to raise his level of play.

Meanwhile, the Warriors have made it known that they are open to trading Barnes if the right deal comes along. Even though Deng will be a free agent once the season concludes, he would certainly be willing to re-sign with a contender. Golden State might be the seventh seed right now, but they have shown the ability to play the game the right way. Not to mention, it’s hard to turn a back on a team with Stephen Curry leading the charge.

The Cavaliers would also like to move Jarrett Jack , who was stellar for the Warriors in the playoffs last season. There has been some speculation that he would be the better fit in a trade with the Warriors. However, I believe Golden State would benefit more with Deng on the roster than Jack.

At this point, Cleveland must trade Deng because there’s no way he re-signs with them in the offseason. Therefore, getting a quality player in Barnes, who will make other stars on the roster happy, is a move that must be accomplished prior to Thursday’s trade deadline.

This would be a possibility only if Cleveland threw in a solid draft pick. Warriors have all the leverage in trading Barnes.
