The Wizards’ two biggest needs are to increase the productivity of their starting frontcourt and increase the productivity of their bench. There have been many rumors of who is on Washington’s radar. The team has been involved in rumors for Greg Monroe, Jameer Nelson, Jimmer Fredette, Andre Miller, Beno Urdih, Taj Gibson and others.
Now with the trade deadline looming, it looks like the Wizards are going to stand still. The team has very appealing contracts that they could trade away to a franchise looking to shed some cash, but with such a limited rotation this year, trading away anyone could put Washington in a bind. Washington could trade away Trevor Ariza; his contact would be appealing to some franchises. Unfortunately, because their most recent third round draft pick, Otto Porter Jr., has not performed at all for the Wizards the team needs Ariza for the playoff push.
At this moment, I do not believe a last minute trade to be beneficial for Washington. The team is in great position to make the playoffs, and it could be risky to interrupt the team’s chemistry. Right now, Washington needs to focus on the playoffs and trying to grab the No. 3 or No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. The franchise has plenty of time to go after a big name player this offseason.
