The Cleveland Cavaliers have been pretty impressive lately apart from a minor blip against the Toronto Raptors. Against the Washington Wizards, they were hoping to make the point that they are indeed a team with playoff potential that is working on reducing the gap and sneaking in this season.
After an impressive first quarter that the Cavs led, they started to fall apart in the second quarter. The Wizards went into halftime with a 58-52 lead. The Cavaliers clawed their way back in the third and looked like taking the lead, but they fell apart again, ultimately losing 96-83.
The Cavaliers seem to of had a season of taking one step forward and one step back, but now they need to find their identity. If it’s not found, they risk another season of failure and the following period of uncertainty in which the Cavaliers will look to frantically rebuild in the summer. They will need to find a way of winning like they’ve previously done, and they have to stop their hot-and-cold form to find a consistent level of play.
The Cavaliers will find that the games are coming thick and heavy going down the stretch, and they’ll need consistency and another hot streak to get the playoffs. However, if games like this one vs. the Wizards are any indication, it’s looking more and more likely that the Cavs will be getting a lottery pick than be playing in the playoffs at the end of the regular season.
