5 Reasons Why Caron Butler Makes Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Finals Contenders
5 Reasons Why Caron Butler Gives OKC Thunder Chance at NBA Finals
The Milwaukee Bucks bought out small forward Caron Butler’s contract on Thursday, which is just another sign of a season that has gone horribly wrong for the Wisconsin team. However, the buyout did lead to good news for another NBA squad.
After careful consideration, Butler decided to ink a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder instead of the Miami Heat. The move came as a bit of a surprise considering Butler has a close relationship and history with the Heat. However, his decision was based strictly on winning a NBA Championship. He believes the Thunder gives him the best option to get another ring, and at the age of 33 years old, no one can really blame him for thinking along those lines.
It is easy to brush off the Butler signing as simply insurance for Oklahoma City down the stretch. The reality is he can become so much more than that for the aspiring team whose 43-15 record has them atop of the Western Conference, two games ahead of the San Antonio Spurs. Butler’s 12 years in the league is the veteran experience the Thunder needs to get over the hump and back into the NBA Finals after missing out last year.
Of course, Butler’s presence alone is going to send Oklahoma City all the way to the top. He’s not that kind of impact player anymore. With that being said, there is no question the acquisition will give the Thunder an edge they definitely needed.
