Coming into Wednesday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets, the Dallas Mavericks were in the midst of a two-game losing streak. Dallas was one of four teams in the NBA that had yet to lose three-straight games this season; the Indiana PacersHouston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers are the only other teams without a three-game losing streak this season.

After the game against the Nuggets, the Mavericks can now take their name off that list. After losing games to the Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs, the Mavericks lost in Denver to run the streak to three.

Unfortunately for the Mavericks, things don’t get any better either. Dallas’ next three games are against the Portland Trailblazers, the Pacers and the Golden State WarriorsAll three teams are in the playoff picture and the Trailblazers and Pacers are towards the top of their respective conferences.

While Dallas is trying to hold onto a playoff spot, they’re in need of a win in the worst way. The problem right now is the possibility that they could find themselves in the midst of a six-game losing streak when this is all said and done, which would really hamper any playoff plans they may have. It wouldn’t eliminate them, but it would put them in a bad position going forward.

Of course, one huge concern for the Mavericks is their inability to hold a lead. Their recent collapse was losing a 16-point lead to the Bulls at home. Dallas has had multiple games this year in which they’ve blown huge leads to teams, and this is a concern. Right now though, the concern has to be the current losing streak and how to end it.
