Star forward Kevin Love has been a double-double machine this season, putting up more than anyone in the league. On Friday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves faced off against the Detroit Pistons, where Love dominated and earned his 51st double-double on the 2013-14 season.
Love has been in the NBA for six years now. Every year he gets better and better. In 2011, just his third year in the league, Love beat Moses Malone‘s record of 51-straight games with a double-double. He went on to have a double-double in 53-straight games that season. Love’s improvement has earned him the reputation as one of the best players in the NBA. This has been a very productive season for Love. He recently earned his triple-double against the Utah Jazz, with 37 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
Against the Pistons, Love was extremely productive. His performance helped the Timberwolves outscore the Pistons 39-21 in the the first quarter. Both of these teams are extremely proficient at rebounding and it was a hard-fought game on the glass. Though Detroit out-rebounded Minnesota 55-50, Love led the team with 14 rebounds. Along with that, he had 28 points, five assists and two steals.
Throughout this season, Love and Detroit’s Andre Drummond have been neck and neck for the double-double title. Drummond has only six less double-doubles than Love this season. On Friday, Love proved that the title is his. He put up more points and pulled down more rebounds than Drummond. He also shot 55 percent from the field and was able to knock down three three-pointers.
